Every weekend from April to September, you can take a sightseeing flight with the only airworthy DC- 3 Dakota in the Netherlands, ‘the Princess Amalia’. A unique experience to enjoy the variety of the Dutch landscape at a height of about 300 metres. Especially since 2024 is the last season you can take a sightseeing flight in this historic aircraft.
From Schiphol East, DDA‘s home base, we fly over the colourful bulb fields, the North Holland coast, cities like Amsterdam and Haarlem and ‘t Gooi with the Muiderslot and Pampus.
From Rotterdam, we watch all the activity in the ports and the interesting spectacle of the Delta Works and the Biesbosch at 300 metres.
In Groningen, the route crosses the Wadden Sea and islands, as well as the Groningen landscape with the special borgen as the country houses are called. The spectacular play of wind and water is clearly visible above the Wadden Sea.
Maastricht is a regular feature in our sightseeing flights. The Geul valley, the Drielandenpunt and the Ardennes continue to fascinate, especially when Spa-Francorchamps is raced at the weekend.
The highlight of the year will be the D-day commemoration in Normandy. The PH-PBA is not to be missed there. She will stay in Caen for two weeks, making daily flights over the beaches where the Allies landed 80 years ago.
Also, Operation Market Garden is 80 years ago this year. We commemorate this with sightseeing flights over Groesbeek and its surroundings, the landing area at the time. These sightseeing flights depart from Schiphol Airport.
Besides Caen, our royal DC-3 Dakota will also visit other foreign airports such as Ostend, Lübeck and Weeze.
In short, a very varied flight programme for the last sightseeing season of this historic aircraft.
